You have to be in it to win it !

Dunbar runners were successful in two races this weekend. On Saturday, at Haddington, Rhona Anderson ran into 3rd place of 68 in the half marathon to win the SAF medal for 1st female super vet. There were also impressive half marathon debuts for Grant Noble finishing 8th of 156 in 1.21.55 and Susan Lyle, 7th in 1.38.55.
The following day four runners tackled the Northumberland Coastal Marathon, a gruelling, off road, out and back run along the coastal footpath. Anne Hay produced a superb run to win the ladies race in 4.11 remarkably only 16 minutes off a recent road marathon time. Also competing were Ian Rowland  3rd in 3.34 and Lee Curtis who found the going tough so soon after competing an ultra race who pulled out at Craster. Val Herring completed the Dunbar team performance, finding time to battle though the pain barrier and finish the race in 5.48 whilst celebrating 40 years of marriage to Jim. Well done, that does deserve a medal !

Waiting for Godot...

Great weather for the Haddington Half again.

Three Dunbar runners posted good times and even managed a trophy or two (Rhona, Grant & Susan).

A report may follow soon. In the meantime here are some photos taken by Anne.

An entry form for the Norham 10K can be found HERE. The race is on the 25th September.

For anyone who hasn’t done this race before this is a nice scenic route through quiet B roads and a nice big country estate.

This is a well marshalled, well organised “run for runners, by runners”.

One to look forward to….

HELP are holding their annual Carfraemill to Gifford run on Wednesday 17th August.

As usual the bus leaves Gifford (outside the Goblin Ha’) at 6:30 to ferry the runners to the start line.

From there it’s a lovely 10 and a bit miles mostly on quiet roads, but also along paths through the Lammermuirs to Gifford and a welcome drink or two and something to eat at the other end.

Please let Stuart or Anne know ASAP if your coming along.

And remember…… its NOT a race

Kirkintilloch Half Marathon

This new half marathon is taking place on October 9 2011, which runners can enter on line at EntryCentral. The direct link is

The inaugural Neil McCover Memorial race is being held on the roads around Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire. The race is being supported by the local council and Strathclyde Police. The course was previously used by the Luddon Half Marathon in the 1980s, and at that time generated some of the fastest times in Scotland, including two of the top 20 all time best performances over this distance.

The race limit has been set at 1500 and we are encouraging runners of all abilities to consider taking up the challenge of competing in the race. There are special prizes for 'novice' half-marathoners, as well £2000 of prize money.

Neil McCover was the chair of Kirkintilloch Olympians and competed in road races, duathlons and triathlons. He was a highly respected Superintendent in Strathclyde Police and was tragically killed in a cycling accident in October 2010 whilst training with colleagues.

Come along and help make this a memorable race.
