"FESTIVE HALF"......... (AND 10K)

"FESTIVE HALF"......... (AND 10K)

The date for this will be Sunday 6th December.

An invitation has again been extended to members of Musselburgh AC and HELP, so we hope to see quite a few runners on the day (fancy dress optional!).

Please let Stuart know if you are taking part and your anticipated time.  Remember this is a handicapped event - the intention is that everyone will finish at 12:00 noon, so the start times will by staggered, based on how long you think it will take to do your chosen distance.

The dates for the 2009/2010 Borders Cross Country Series have now been set. The dates are:-

Date    Venue
15/11/09        Norham
29/11/09        Lauder
13/12/09        Dunbar
10/01/10        Gala’
31/01/10        Berwick
28/02/10        Peebles

Course details will be published on the cross country section of the Norham website ( ).

Race start times are as previous years. Junior races start at 11:30 and senior races start at 12:00 (may be slightly later if junior races overrun). Runners are advised to turn up early for the first race to help ease congestion at registration.

Costs for the 2009/2010 series are £12 for seniors and £6 for juniors. This is a one off payment that enters the athlete for all six races.

This series has become increasingly popular in recent years and runners are reminded that an influx of runners into small communities can cause parking problems. Runners are asked to share transport wherever possible and to park vehicles considerately. As ever, runners are asked to act with consideration for local residents. Runners should also be aware that changing and toilet facilities may, in some cases, be spartan”.

Well, the results of another highly scientific poll are in…. and what an ungrateful bunch we are!

Only 34% of respondents keep and cherish all those hard earned medals, while 45% of us bung ‘em in a drawer.

A surprising 10% of us regard them as useless clutter and dispose of them while 9% at least keep the ones that are “special”.

All makes you wonder why race organisers bother really.

Anyway. Another exciting poll can be found to your right, and up a bit.

London Marathon 2010

The club has been given two places for the 2010 London Marathon!
If anyone has been unsuccessful in the ballot for the London Marathon (we already know of one person), please let Anne know as soon as possible if you would still like a place.  If there are more than two people, we will do the usual drawing the names out of a hat to determine who gets the entries.

From Dunbar to Inverness

Dunbar Running Club hosted their annual 10 mile mile multi-terrain race on Saturday, sponsored by British Energy.

The gale-force conditions made the run a difficult one, particularly on the final climb, but that didn't deter the winner, 17 year old Andrew Crichton of Dunbar Running Club, from finishing in under an hour in 59:35, nearly four minutes ahead of Moray Peterson of Portobello, who finished in 1:03:33. Stuart MacLeod of Edinburgh AC finished third in 1:04:23. He was closely followed by Charlie Gillon of Alnwick Harriers, who took first veteran prize in 1:04:39. First male supervet was Stuart Symington of Dunbar in 1:06:56.

First female over the line was Katy Anderson of Gala Harriers in 1:12:08 – well ahead of the second placed female, club mate Jane Chalmers, who finished in 1:18:15. Third female was Marie Storrie of Lothian Running Club in 1:20:46. The female vertan prize went to Saran Jones of Lothian in 1:23:17 and first female supervet went to Jill Horsburgh of Lothian in 1:24:26. The male team prize was presented to Dunbar – Andrew, Stuart and Ross Combe; the female team prize to Lothian – Marie, Saran and Jill.

Race Director, Stuart Hay, thanked the sponsors and everyone who helped make the event a successful one.

The following day, several Dunbar runners took part in the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon and 10K. Ian Rowland finished the Marathon in 2:38:02 (46th overall), with Stuart Hay finishing in 3:00:31. Rhona Anderson had an incredible debut into the Marathon distance with a time of 3:10:55, which gave her a prize in the female veteran category. Richard Taylor also ran an excellent first Marathon with a time of 3:13:41. Also competing were Steve Pattison (3:35:18), Emma Taylor (3:47:12), Neil Jones (3:47:52 a PB), Anne Hay (3:51:13), Mary Pattison (3:55:30 - a PB), Valerie Herring (4:13:08) and Sheila Morrison (4:54:31). Running in the 10K were Andrew Anderson (43:10) and Jamie Cherrie (46:06).

Well done to everyone who turned up for a VERY windy 10 mile race on Saturday 3rd October.

(Many thanks to Pete for the photos).

The above map shows the route of this year's British Energy Dunbar 10 Mile race.

Please note that there have been one or two small changes to the route from previous years, to take into account East Lothian Councils new pathways scheme (or whatever it's called).

Hopefully the weather will be kind to us.
