Loch Leven

The 26th Loch Leven Half Marathon took place on Saturday 16th May, with several East Lothian club runners travelling to Kinross to take part in the popular event.  The changeable weather meant many of the runners were caught in a downpour in the last miles, but that was made up for with the hospitality of the local club, Kinross Road Runners, who organised the event.

Ian Rowland  came in 15th overall, out of 510 runners completing the course, with a time of 1:21:05, with club mate Stuart Hay coming in 19th in 1:21:37.   In his first ever Half Marathon, Brian Davidson achieved an impressive 1:41:44, finishing well ahead Jamie Cherrie (1:46:28), Anne Hay (1:46:56) and Theresa Leslie (2:06:42).

Some Recent Races (well, ones we know about.....)

The Bupa Great Edinburgh Run (10K) took place on Sunday 3rd May with Jamie Cherrie and Alex Curran both completing the course round the centre of Edinburgh.  Jamie finished in 48:05 and Alex in 55:20.
The previous day was the slightly shortened Edinburgh to North Berwick which, strangely, didn't feel shorter.  Stuart Hay was first Dunbar runner home in 2:13:25, with Richard Taylor only just finishing ahead of Rhona Anderson in a time of 2:24:42.  Rhona's 2:24:49 made her 4th woman overall and she won the prize for 3rd female veteran.  James Addie finished in 2:33:06, Neal Wyatt 2:50:32, Anne Hay 2:53:33, Neil Teather 3:02:34 and Pete McIvor 3:05:35.
On Sunday 26th April, Sheila Morrison took part in one of her favourtie races, the Balfron 10K, finishing in 55:16.  The previous day, Ian Rowland finished the 55th 3 Peaks Race in 3:43:30.  This very popular event starts and finishes in Horton-in-Ribblesdale taking in the ascent and descent of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough summit.

…Or so sang overtly teuchterish, off-key, beat combo “The Proclaimers”.

You it would appear, from the results of our last poll, would rather run 500 miles – then change your shoes. While 40% said they replaced their shoes after about 500 miles a significant 20% said they only replace their shoes once a year.Either a low annual mileage or risking knee problems there……

Results were:

About 300 miles 6%

About 400 miles 13%

About 500 miles 40%

About 600 miles 6%

About 700 miles 13%

Once a year or so 20%

A new poll is published today.

Fun Run

I am writing on behalf of Garvald Village Hall, we have organised a fun run to take place on the Sunday 24th May 2009 to raise some funds for the village hall renovations.   We thought some of your members may be interested in taking part.
The details are as follows:
There will be a 5km run for adults and a 1km (ish) run for kids.    The costs of entry are £5 for adults and £1 for kids.   The races will start at 11am (the kids race first) and there will be various fun games stalls and refreshments for anyone who might want to come along and support.
The races will start and finish in Garvald Park.
We look forward to hearing from you or any members who may wish to run or have any queries.  I can supply a soft copy entry form, or these can be picked up from Joe Forte in Haddington or the Garvald Inn.
Thanks and kind regards,
V Freeland
