As the temperatures started to rise, running races started to feel a little bit different, but it didn't stop club members from competing in a number of races.
On the 1st was the Haddington 10K - Stuart Hay was the first Dunbar finisher in 36:08, taking the second male vet prize, Grant Noble finished in 36:51, taking the first supervet prize, James Addie in 37:39 and Anne Hay in 49:20.
The next day Ian Sills and Ian Rowland ran the 12.8 km Yetholm Hill Race, with Ian S finishing in 1:21:29, seven places ahead of Ian R in 1:21:55.
While away on a break, Brian Davidson competed in the Isle of Skye Half Marathon on the 8th, finishing in an excellent 1:31:58, coming in 31st over all. Meanwhile a dozen club members competed in the Traprain Law Race - James Addie; 44:20 (12th overall), Stuart; 45:04 (3rd vet), Ian Rowland; 45:47, Richard Taylor; 47:43, Lee Curtis; 49:27, Rhona Anderson; 50:03 (1st lady vet), Neal Wyatt; 53:02, Mary Wood; 55:19, Andy Anderson; 57:20, Anne; 59:01 (1st lady supervet), Neil Jones; 1:08:13, Sheila; 1:17:36. A special mention to Neil Jones, who stopped en route to help with a runner who had collapsed in the heat!
The next day saw Sheila Morrison competing in the Vale of Leven 10k, a multi-terrain event, finishing in 56.39. The following weekend, Sheila took part in another multi-terrain event in Oxford - the Jericho 10K, a very scenic route, along the canal paths and over countryside. On the same day, the 16th, Ian and Jane ran the 2nd Dalbeattie Civic Half Marathon - Ian finished 4th in 1:23:15 and Jane finished in 2:08:50. Grant Noble, running in the 800m of the National Masters Championships at Grangemouth, proved he was the fastest male over 50, finishing in just over 2 minutes - 2:15:05 - giving him a ranking of 18th overall in the UK.
On the 21st, Neil Jones ran the wonderful Black Rock 5 at Kinghorn, finishing in 33:53.
The following Sunday in the series of trail races at Alnwick, Neil and Charlotte Teather finished the 5K in 28:21. In the 10K Andy Sheldrick finished in 44:33, Theresa Davidson in 56:54, Frank Weissgerber in 56:52 and Val Herring in 58:36. In the Half Marathon Stuart finished in 1:21:31, Ian Sills in 1:24:40, Ian Rowland in 1:31:13, Brian in 1:33:13, Lee in 1:36:33, Anne in 1:54:06, Neil Jones in 1:57:33, Jane in 2:13:21, Sheila in 2:22:21.
The month was rounded up with six runner competing in the tough Lairig Ghru - over 42 km and 640m of climb - on a blustery day with a record field for the event. Ian Sills finished 20th in 3:56:39, James in 4:09:18, Rhona 4:14:54 (3rd lady), Lee 4:28:26, Brian 4:41:32 and Mary 5:05:32.
A lot of miles and a few pairs of worn out running shoes no doubt. Well done again.
