Stuc a' Chroin 5000 Hill Race May 4th 2013

From Steve Respinger : Just to keep you posted about the Stuc a'
Chroin 5000 race on May 4th 2013 (aka Star Wars Day!). You might be
aware that this is our 25th Anniversary, and this year, to commemorate
this, we're proud to be hosting the Scottish Athletics Championship
Race, and one of the two Scottish Hill Runners Long Championship
Races. We're upping the number of prizes to runners this year, and
also, along with our current £2,500 worth of prizes, there'll be the
prizes, medals etc associated with Scottish Athletics and Scottish
Hill Runners.

This is a special day in the calendar for both us and many of the
runners, and we'd like, this year especially, for the race to be run
with minimum complications and for all the runners to have a great day
with no problems.

As we're expecting an increase in numbers this year, there may be a
few runners that haven't run the race before, and so, closer to the
event, we'll email again to make you aware of any points that your
members may find useful pre or post-race, for example roadworks,
registration etc. Please forward this or any subsequent email from us
to them for their information as you think fit.

We're hoping for ideal weather for the runners and the marshals,
(well, you have to be optimistic!) and a really great day, and look
forward to seeing you all.

Please feel free to email me at stuc5000@gmail.com if you have any
queries, and I'll do my best to answer them. Don't forget to visit the
web site www.stucachroin5000.org.uk for up to date information before
the race.

Cheers, and May the 4th be with you

Steve

Please sponsor me!!!

Whilst I know this is not strictly running related, I think that I might need to use some of the skills I've gained from running club over the past few years in my latest mad adventure.  I'm taking part in the Leuchie House Firewalk on 12/04/2013 to raise money for Leuchie House Short Break Care.  I'm a bit apprehensive at the thought of walking for 20ft across embers that are burning at over 1200 degrees Fahrenheit, but at the very least it should warm my feet up!!  I'm really looking forward to the training I get before I do the firewalk - mainly because its called a Fear Buster seminar - "Learn or Burn"!!

For those of you that don't know, Leuchie House offers respite short breaks to enhance the lives of people (and their families) living with Multiple Sclerosis, Huntingdon's, Parkinson's, stroke, spinal injuries and other long term conditions.

I'd really appreciate any support you can give - please visit my JustGiving page:

JustGiving sends your donation straight to Leuchie House Short Break Care and automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you're a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more. I hope you'll join me in supporting Leuchie House Short Break Care.

Thank you.

Theresa

Still Please Sponsor Me!!!

I just wanted to update everyone that the Leuchie House Firewalk has been postponed slightly, so is no longer taking part today but has moved to 7 June 2013.  That gives me a bit more time to fund-raise although I also have more time to get nervous!!  I guess it gives me some time to come out of winter training and hone my speed skills just in case I need to sprint the 20ft across embers that are burning at over 1200 degrees Fahrenheit!!

I am really disappointed though that I have to wait an extra couple of months for my Fear Buster seminar - "Learn or Burn"!!  I thought that fear busting could come in handy!

For those of you that don't know, Leuchie House offers respite short breaks to enhance the lives of people (and their families) living with Multiple Sclerosis, Huntingdon's, Parkinson's, stroke, spinal injuries and other long term conditions.

Thanks to eveyone who has supported this great cause so far.  I really appreciate any support you can give - please visit my JustGiving page:

D33 Report (From Neil Jones)

I undertook my first ultra on the 16th March the D33 .

Its a 33 mile out and back course from Aberdeen to Banchory . I would recommend this as a good step up from a marathon without being too arduous . Its a flat course along the old Deeside railway line . Quite a low key event which had 250 runners this year only a tenner or so to enter and you get a special D33 label beer at the end . Unfortunately the weather wasn't great, rained most of the time but at least it wasn't windy . Spotted a guy with a Dunbar buff and got chatting to him turned out he lived in Dunbar (Benjamin Napier) and this was the first of several ultras he planned this year.  Had thought a 10 min mile pace would be reasonable but started off about 9.15, slowing to 9.45 overall, finishing in 5 hrs 21 mins - middle of the field . I had brought some fudge, hoola hoops and sports drinks to leave at the drop off points, but didn't really need them, being fine with gels -   though enjoyed the flapjacks at half way .

So thats the ultra box ticked -  don't have any burning desire to do longer distances partic because of all the training involved . Next Marathon is Brighton on the 14th April!
A sprint for the line!!
