GB Coastal Run

There is currently a gap in the coastal relay from musselburgh to
dunbar. The baton is due to arrive in Musselburgh on sunday 11th July
and needs some help to get further round the coast to join up with the
runner waiting to start her leg from Dunbar to Cove.

Lairig Ghru Hill Race

Just on my way back from the race. Splendid day out, the rain holding off and a nice tail wind for good measure. Came in around 4:15, provisionally 25th, the first member of the club across the line...

Turf Cutting Race

MDAC will be hosting the third running of the Turf Cutting Race on Saturday 11th September. It will be run in an orienteering format with checkpoints at each of Musselburgh's Turf Cutting Stations, a total distance of approximately 7.5 miles. A map will be provided. The race will start at 10.30 am from Pinkie playing fields and will be open to senior members of MDAC plus the Haddington and Dunbar Clubs. The race will be followed by soup and sandwiches.

Could you please contact Gordon Eadie if you intend to run.

I have booked changing rooms and the kitchen. Before the race, we will be going over the route on Tuesday nights, if any one wants to join us.

Gordon

This is good fun - urban orienteering, not just a straighforward run.  Highly recommended.  Anne will take details of anyone who is going nearer the time and will pass names to Gordon.

FUN IN THE SUN - PORTOBELLO ROAD RACE.

What better way to spend a summer's evening than a visit to a seaside resort? Even if you don't bring your bucket and spade.

Thursday saw a fairly large group of Dunbar runners heading along the coast to Portobello for the 4 mile "Prom" race.

Conditions were near perfect (though perhaps a bit warm) and some good times were posted. And we even managed to bag a couple of trophies - well done Andrew and Karen.

Ian was on hand to take some pictures and his results can be found here: http://picasaweb.google.com/stu.hay/PortobelloRoadRace2010?feat=directlink

DONT FORGET YOUR SIMMIT...."FABULOUS" PRIZES TO BE WON.

DONT FORGET YOUR SIMMIT...."FABULOUS" PRIZES TO BE WON.

OK Folks it’s summer time (apparently) and some of you will be thinking of heading off for warmer and, dare I say it, more interesting climes.

Now. For some people a holiday means just that – a chance to get away from everything (including the running). For others it’s simply an opportunity to run somewhere different.

So here’s the thing… We want photos. Lets see what interesting locations we can snap a Dunbar vest in. You can be running … or not. You can be holidaying in “Foreign” … or not. Anything goes - as long as that Dunbar vest is clearly in view (well when we say “anything” obviously the usual guidelines on decency apply).

This competition will end when the leaves start to turn brown and fall from the trees. A suitable prize will be awarded to what we think is the best photo (we will have a vote at the end).

Please email your summer pics to dunbar.running@gmail.com and we will try to publish them as and when they come in.

ELSS RACE 2 - URGENT - HELP REQUIRED

Stuart will be unavailable to officiate at the next ELSS race (hosted
by Dunbar) (Jazz gig of a lifetime).
Can anyone stand in and "take the watch"?
What's required is for someone to register any new runners, start the
runners on time and record the times and numbers of finishers.
Stuart will pass on all paperwork on Tuesday. The handicap times for
runners who already completed leg1 have been calculated.

Please let Stuart know ASAP. Thanks.

Help with Junior Events and Meeting

Dunbar running club (juniors) will be hosting the pentathlon on 22nd June.  This will involve athletes from Lasswade, Musselburgh and Haddington coming along to join us for the night.
If anyone could help out please let Maureen know if they are available to assist with this.
We always need lots of help with registering the athletes for this one.
Club will start at 6 pm that night for registration.

Our Fun Run + BBQ at John Muir Country Park will take place on 29th June. 6.30 pm until 8.30 pm. Again any help would be appreciated to set up the route and assist with the food and drinks.

Many thanks
Also, as mentioned at the AGM, Ian Rowland, Anne and Stuart were at a meeting with Penny Lochhead and Wendy Sheldrick of PMR Leisure on 20th May re. the review of Hallhill.  They have now organised a collective meeting of the Hallhill Sports Clubs on Thursday the 17th June at 6:30pm at Hallhill which some of us won't be able to attend - if anyone is available on Thursday to go, please contact Anne for background information.

Races and Congratulations

Saturday was a glorious hot sunny day - ideal for lying out in the garden, with a cold drink, maybe not so ideal for racing, but it didn't stop seven Dunbar runners taking part in the ASICS Haddington 5 mile road race. Stuart Hay finished 8th overall in 29:24, taking the trophy for first East Lothian veteran, with Steve Pattison taking the prize for first MV50 with 34:05. Brian Davidson had another good run with 35:16, Neil Jones 38:29, Frank Weissgerber 38:52, Anne Hay 39:06 (taking the 1st FV45) and Keith Mills 63:55.

Sunday 30th saw Sheila Morrison taking part in the Campbeltown Half Marathon with a time of 2:10:06 - another hot day, over a hilly course, taking in part of the beach. Sheila recently became a Grandmother for the first time - a lovely girl - so a big "Congratulations" to Sheila. Also on the same day, Clarissa ran the Druridge Bay 10K, a beautiful multi-terrain run taking in part of the beach and again, run in lovely conditions - highly recommended!

The day before, Steve Pattison took part in his 18th Edinburgh Park Run - his best time to date is 19:28. Keep up the good work Steve.

Another scorching day for the Edinburgh Marathon on 23rd had Stuart Hay finally achieving sub 3 hours, finishing in 2:59:11. Neil Jones looked very comfortable finishing in 3:49:12. The half marathon, which was run ahead of the Marathon had Jane Timms achieving a PB with a time of 1:58:38 - ten minutes quicker than her anticipated time. Lee Curtis competed in the race too along with new members Stephanie Gilmartin (2:16:52) and Margaret Maxwell (2:16:57).

On the 16th Sheila Morrison ran the Oxford Town and Gown 10K in 57:15. The very popular, colourful event is run round the colleges and the narrow streets of Oxford, with all proceeds going to the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. Sheila also took part in the Glasgow Women's 10K the previous weekend with a time of 56:56.

Lee Curtis went through snow, wind, rain and sun to finish the Stuc A Chroin 5000 in 3:32:24 on 1st May. The 5000 represents the climb in feet which the race takes in and is now in it's 22nd year. Well done Lee - one to consider next year all you hill runners!

Fancy a bit of track and field?

The junior section of the club have been battling hard in the CSSAL
athletics league but need vital points to keep them high up the table. The
CSSAL also has senior track and field events for club members which add to
the points, and even just taking part will give them a boost. How about
giving yourself a new challenge, or relive your school sports day memories
and take part in one or two of them? Events include 100m, 400m, hurdles,
relay, javelin, high jump, shot putt and long jump. Whilst it is
competitive, those of us who took part last year had a lot of fun (apart
from the aches and pains the next day) and helped save the team from
relegation.

The next event is on Sunday 27th June at Linwood. There is a bus going at
9.15am from the grammar school. If you are interested in taking part then
let Maureen or Scott know at the club.

By The Way, Tyndrum

Hi

We have recently bought "By The Way Hostel" which is located on the
West Highland Way in Tyndrum. As a very keen distance runner myself,
I would like to encourage ultra distance runners, especially those who
are training for the WHW race and Devil of the Highlands, as well as
the Highland Fling next year, to come and stay at our hostel while
they are training. Jez Bragg, who holds the record for all three
races, was here over the last weekend in May, training for the Ultra
Trail Du Mont Blanc in August. Next year we are hosting the finish of
the Highland Fling which will be very exciting.

For more information about the hostel and campsite please visit our
website at www.tyndrumbytheway.com.

Hope to see some of you soon

Regards

Kirsty Burnett

MUSSELBURGH 10K - 24th JULY.

The details for the Musselburgh 10k race have just been published. Details can be found at Musselburgh's website (http://www.musselburghac.com/).

Remember. This is not only a counting race for this years overall championship competition, but is also the designated "Dunbar 10k Champion" race.

This is a good fast race over a nice flat course. No entries on the day, so make sure you sign up good and early.
