From ScottishAthletics

Scottish Athletics are hosting the IAAF World Cross Country
Championships in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh on 30th March 2008. As part
of the weekend of running that we are hosting we are also trying to
get children involved with our Adopt-a-Nation project. Basically we
are asking schools, clubs and youth organisations if they would like
to be part of the World Cross by adopting one of the Countries that
taking part and supporting them by participating in a number of
initiatives including drawing pictures or writing letters of support
to be put up in the athletes village at Pollock Halls. Every group
involved will receive a fact sheet about their country and an athlete
who is competing at the Championships they can also access:

Nominate a child to meet the teams at the athletes village (Sat 29th March)
Enter a team in the Welcome the World Young Athletes Relays (Sat 29th March)
Nominate a child (over age 13) to get the chance to carry a national
flag in the opening ceremony
Access the Sports Carnival and Forth1 Roadshow (Sun 30th March)
Access up to £250 for the group toward travel costs to watch the
Championships (Sun 30th March)
The level of involvement is entirely up to the club /group with as
little or as much of the above being accessed as is wished.

I have attached a copy of the flier we are getting delivered hopefully
this week which contains more information about the project. The
leaflets don't need to go to individual children just those coaches
etc that would be interested in the project.

If you think you would be interested in your area taking part in the
project and would like some leaflets to hand out to your club etc
please get in touch with me and let me know how many you would like
and where you would like them posted and I will arrange to have them

Alternatively to register for the project all I need currently is name
of contact person, email address, phone number and postal address for
each interested school/group. They will then be allocated a country
and further information will be sent out.

If you have any questions on the project please feel free to get in
touch, I have asked that you register your interest by Wed 20th
February at the latest. For more information please go to

I have had a lot of interest already and look forward to get as many
Scottish Clubs as possible involved in what will be a great weekend of

Kind Regards,

Katie Horne
